About Love Data Week

February 9-13, 2026 marks Love Data Week, an international celebration of data held each year during the week of Valentine’s Day. Universities, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and individuals around the world are encouraged to host and participate in data-related events and activities.

The CDF will organize learning and networking activities during this week. Below you will find a preliminary schedule. Stay tuned for more details!

Program

Monday February 9

To kick off this year’s Love Data Week, the Central Data Facility at the University of Freiburg is offering several sessions on various RDM topics on Monday morning.

After a brief introduction to the CDF as the central point of contact at the University of Freiburg for all research data management matters and to the Data Stewardship Service using the example of the Future Forests Cluster of Excellence, the second part of the morning will focus on what exactly needs to be considered in funding applications in the section on handling research data. In keeping with the motto “Where’s the data?”, we will conclude the morning with a look at research data storage options at the University of Freiburg’s compute center.

Tuesday February 10

The University Library of Freiburg supports researchers at all career stages in their scholarly publishing efforts. Participants will learn, for example, how to use the institutional repository FreiDok plus to publish dissertations in a permanently searchable and citable format, and to make their publications visible. The library’s advisory and support services related to open access publishing, publication funding, and Diamond Open Access will also be presented.

Wednesday February 11

Explore Galaxy, the community-driven, web-based platform designed for FAIR data analysis. Used across a wide range of scientific disciplines, Galaxy simplifies complex workflows for big data. This talk will highlight how Galaxy serves as a versatile tool—not only for high-level research but also as an accessible platform for student education and citizen science. Join us to discover the tools and opportunities available to help you make the most of your research data!

Galaxy Training Network (GTN) is a huge collection of tutorials developed and maintained by the global Galaxy community. This talk will highlight a core principle of Galaxy tutorials as well as a good data management. It will also show how GTN training resources support the entire data lifecycle, from planning and analysis to data reuse.

What counts as “research data” in the humanities? How can we get and responsibly manage that data?
