This year, the University of Freiburg (UFR) participated for the first time in Love Data Week with its own dedicated event program, joining universities and other institutions worldwide in celebrating the annual international week devoted to research data and research data management (RDM). The Central Data Facility (CDF)— the university’s institutional point of contact for research data and RDM — assumed responsibility for the organization and coordination of all UFR associated events, inaugurating the week on-site on February 9th with its own event series.
The program comprised a series of presentations addressing key aspects of institutional research data management, including data stewardship at the University of Freiburg — illustrated through a concrete example from the Excellence Cluster FutureForests — practical guidance on the RDM components of grant applications, and an introduction to storage options provided by the university’s computing center. The event was well attended by local researchers, academics, and data stewards from a broad range of disciplines.
Participants engaged actively with the interactive coffee breaks held between sessions, using the opportunity to share their specific RDM needs and to exchange perspectives both with fellow attendees and with members of the CDF team. The positive direct feedback received, as well as the concrete follow-up inquiries regarding RDM topics, underscored two important points: the value of locally organized events for enhancing the visibility and awareness of the topic, as spaces for professional exchange, and the growing relevance of research data management across the diverse academic disciplines represented at the university.
Throughout the remainder of the week, further university institutions working in close collaboration with the CDF — among them the Freiburg University Library, the Galaxy Europe Team, and the Digital Humanities Lab — offered a range of online events that generated considerable interest among both local and broader audiences.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all speakers, contributors, and participants for their engagement and support. We look forward to collaborating once again in shaping next year’s Love Data Week.
